Pre and Post Guidelines for Advanced Skin Blemish Removal

Pre Treatment Guidelines

  • Avoid fake tan or gradual tanning products on the treatment area for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure, apply a minimum of SPF 30 daily and avoid any heat treatments immediately before treatment.
  • Avoid laser or IPL treatments on the area for at least 4-6 weeks beforehand, or as advised following your specific laser/IPL treatment.
  • Avoid botox, dermal fillers, needling treatments, light therapy, microdermabrasion or any other advanced cosmetic treatment that may compromise healing for 4-6 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Do not have any of the following treatments on area for 2 weeks before treatment: bleaching, electrolysis hair removal, waxing, bleaching or facial treatments/ use of products containing AHA/ BHA/ Retinol. If you use tretinoin or any other prescription-strength retinoid, please contact me before your appointment for individual advice.
  • Keep the area free from cuts, abrasions, active irritation or open wounds. Please contact me before attending if the skin becomes damaged, inflamed or infected.
  • For vascular blemishes such as thread veins, avoid alcohol, smoking and strenuous exercise for several hours before treatment, as these can temporarily dilate the blood vessels.
  • Arrive with clean skin where possible, avoiding heavy makeup, creams or oils directly over the treatment area.
  • Stay well hydrated and eat normally before your appointment.
  • Please inform me of any changes to your health, medication or skincare since your consultation, including any recent procedures or changes to prescribed medication.

Post Treatment Guidelines

  • Following Your Treatment, You May Experience:
  • Mild redness, swelling or sensitivity around the treated area for up to 48 hours.
  • A feeling of warmth or heat in the treated area and surrounding skin for up to 48 hours.
  • Tiny pin-point crusts or small scabs may develop as part of the normal healing process.
  • Mild itching may occur as the skin begins to heal.
  • These reactions are generally a normal part of the skin’s natural healing response following treatment.
  • Aftercare Instructions
  • Following your treatment, it is important that you carefully follow the aftercare advice provided to support healing and reduce the risk of irritation, infection, pigmentation changes or scarring.
  • Small pin-point crusts or scabs may form over the treated area. These help protect the healing skin underneath and should be allowed to fall away naturally.
  • Do not pick, scratch, rub or remove any crusts or scabs, as this may delay healing and increase the risk of infection, pigmentation changes or scarring.
  • Crusts can be extremely small and may be felt rather than easily seen.
  • Avoid unnecessarily touching, rubbing or irritating the treated area.
  • When cleansing, use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water. Carefully pat the skin dry rather than rubbing it.
  • Following vascular blemish treatment, avoid anything that significantly increases heat or blood flow to the area for at least 48 hours. This includes strenuous exercise, hot showers or baths, saunas, steam rooms, spicy foods and alcohol.
  • Avoid swimming, facial steaming, exfoliation, scrubs, waxing and other treatments that could irritate the area or disturb the healing skin until it has completely healed.
  • Following vascular treatment, avoid flying for 48 hours.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and UV light, including sunbeds, throughout the healing process.
  • Once the area has fully healed, protect exposed skin daily with a broad-spectrum, high-factor SPF. This is particularly important following treatment to help reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.
  • Where possible, avoid factors that may contribute to vascular blemishes, such as tight-fitting glasses, squeezing spots, repeated trauma from tweezing or blowing the nose excessively.
  • Do not apply potential irritants or sensitising products to the treated area while it is healing. This includes perfumes, fragranced skincare or body products, fake tan, retinoids, exfoliating acids and physical exfoliants.
  • Avoid applying make-up directly over the treated area until the skin has healed and any crusting has naturally resolved.
  • Follow any additional aftercare advice provided to you specifically for the blemish or area treated.
  • If you have any concerns about your treated area or the healing process, or experience a reaction that you were not expecting, please contact me as soon as possible for advice.
